- Definition: Lip pencils, also referred to as lip liners, are cosmetic products used to outline and shape the lips.
- Appearance Forms: They usually come in two forms. One is the sharpenable wooden or paper-wrapped pencil, and the other is the convenient retractable tube.
- Shape Perfect Lips: Lip pencils can correct imperfect lip shapes like being too thick, thin, large or small, making the lips more symmetrical and plump.
- Prevent Lipstick Bleeding: By creating a barrier around the lips, they prevent lipstick from smudging outward, keep the lip makeup clean and also help to prolong the durability of lipstick.
- Enhance Color Saturation: For lipsticks with light colors, lip pencils can enhance their color saturation, making the lips more vivid.
- Conceal Imperfections: They can cover up original lip flaws such as dark lip color or dullness around the lips, improving the overall delicacy of the makeup.
- Preparation: It's better to apply lip balm to moisturize your lips and use a foundation to slightly cover the original lip color to create a smooth base for lip pencil application.
- Outline the Lips: Start from the corner of the upper lip and gently outline along the natural lip line with short, natural strokes. Don't press too hard. If you want to make the lips look fuller, you can slightly extend outside the natural lip line, but the expansion or contraction range should preferably not exceed 1-1.5mm of the original lip contour.
- Fill or Match: If using the lip pencil alone, continue to fill the entire lip with it. If used with lipstick, fill the middle part with lipstick after outlining the lip line. Finally, gently blend with your fingers or a lip brush to make the lip makeup look more natural.
- Test Smoothness: Test it on the back of your hand to see if it glides on smoothly without interruption.
- Check the Texture: The texture of the lip pencil should be neither too soft, which makes it difficult to control the lines and easy to draw thick, nor too hard, which may damage the delicate skin of the lips and result in unsmooth lines. A moderate texture is more suitable for outlining the ideal lip shape.
- Check the Ingredients: Avoid lip pencils containing harmful ingredients. You can check the heavy metal content, microbial contamination and other indicators in the test report.
